I have partitioned my hard drive into four different selected volume or partitions whatever you wish to call it. Four partitions are for different purposes. C drive is mainly used for installation purposes. I use my D and E drive for storing songs, wallpapers, ebooks, movies etc. in a word for entertainment purposes. But F drive of my computer is totally personal. Generally I use to stort my blog and website related secret information on that particular drive. Naturally I never want to make those things publisize.
Since I often have friends and family members who often use my computer. I have been looking for a safe but quick and easy method to hide or lock my personal drive from oters. So I definitely need a solution to keep my F drive from oters. Searching for this I at last able to do this with the help of “command prompt”. I am astonished when I see how fine it works.
Many utility software such as Drivelocker can be used for this same purpose. But when you can do this without any installation then why need it! Diskpart is a wondeful command for computers that helps to hide any hard drive partitons. You can manually choice and hide more than one drives by using this wonderful command.
How can I use this command to hide my prefered volume?
Here is a step by step descripsion with related picturisation to make it vivid and easy to understand. Now lets see how it works.
Step 1: At first press the start button and go to Run option.
Step 2: Wrie ‘cmd”(command prompt) in the run box. And hit enter.
A cmd.exe screen appear as shown in the piucture below.
Step 3: Now type ‘diskpart’ and press enter.
Then write the command “list volume” and hit enter again.
A list of volume or hard disk partition will appear on the screen (as shown in the picture below).
Now choose the volume that you have to hide.
And you have to select the volume number shown in the list.
Step 4: Now in ncommand prompt your command will be such as:
“select volume [volume numder from the list]” and hit enter.
This command is for selecting the partition that you want to hide/unhide.
Step 5: to hide the selectedc volume type: “remove letter [partition name]” & hit enter.
Then type exit and press enter.
This is done. Now you or any one can’t find the hidden drive.
For example suppose I have to hide F drive partition. My command will be such as:
“select volume 5”
“remove letter F”
Please see the above picture for better undsrstanding.
now you can see the hidden partition screen above. here F drive is a hidden drive.
How can I unhide this volume once again?
The partition or related files or folders work fine in hide conditions also. But any time (when you need) you can unhide it with the help of command prompt. Just follow the first four steps described abve. In the 5th step just type “assign letter [the hidden partition name]” and press enter. Type exit and back to main window. You can successfully unhide the hidden drive and back it to previous state.
For me to unhide my computers F drive my command will be such as:
Step 5: “assign letter F” (see the related picture below)
